Return of Dragon Year On Nguyen Hue Street
After a long absence of 12 years, the heart of Ho Chi Minh City is set to pulsate with the return of a stunning 100-meter-long dragon installation on Nguyen Hue Walking Street, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This event, a fusion of historical reverence and modern celebration, is not just a visual spectacle but a deep dive into the rich tapestry of Vietnamese culture and tradition.
The dragon, a revered symbol in Vietnamese folklore, is known for its strength, wisdom, and auspicious power. Its return is symbolic, marking not only the completion of the zodiac cycle but also a revival of cultural heritage that has been integral to Vietnamese celebrations, particularly the Tet holiday.
The longest Dragon ever existed on a flower street
In the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, the Nguyen Hue Flower Street for Tet 2024 immediately captures attention with its entrance marked by a pair of impressively coiling dragon mascots, setting the stage for an anticipated exploration of the 2024 flower street.
Named “Lưỡng long triều liên” (Two Dragons Flanking the Lotus), the grand gateway features two dragon mascots, each with five segments of sinuously winding body extending along the sides of the flower street. These dragons, stretching over 100 meters in length and with head circumferences exceeding 2 meters, are a sight to behold. The dragons’ mouths, clutching pearls 50cm in diameter, are artfully crafted from frosted mica, illuminated from within.
Visitors strolling under the dragons can clearly see the materials used – bamboo blinds and rattan woven into shape. Bamboo fan blinds under the dragons’ bellies move with the wind, creating a lifelike impression of breathing dragons, offering a unique experience to the visitors.
Beyond setting a record for the largest zodiac animal ever featured on Nguyen Hue Flower Street, this year’s dragon mascot also emphasizes environmental friendliness, with over 90% of the materials used in its construction being bamboo, rattan, and bamboo fan blinds.
The designers have skillfully blended dragon characteristics from the Tran, Ly, and Nguyen eras, evident in features such as upward-facing heads, large noses with rounded tips, protruding eyes, mouths holding pearls, and large manes on the cheeks and head.
With this design, the Dragon promises to make Nguyen Hue Flower Street one of the best things to do in Ho Chi Minh City this Tet 2024.

The Nguyen Hue Flower Street for Tet 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City is set to dazzle visitors with an array of visually captivating scenes beyond its record-setting dragon mascots. This year’s Tet celebration promises a “grand feast” for the eyes with major attractions including:
Uncle Ho’s Apricot Garden: Continuing its collaboration with Nguyen Hue Flower Street, Binh Loi Apricot Village in Binh Chanh District, HCMC, will once again bring its apricot garden to life. Thousands of thin aluminum leaves will be hung on the apricot branches, enhancing their beauty and creating a shimmering effect both day and night.
“Spring Dragon Boat” Scene: This impressive display will cover an area of 900m2, designed to give visitors the sensation of sailing down a river on a dragon boat, surrounded by flowers on both sides.
“Nhất đại Thăng Long” Display: Covering over 1,000m2, this scene is set to be one of the highlights of the flower street.
In line with its eco-friendly approach, more than 70% of the materials used in the Nguyen Hue Flower Street for Tet 2024 are environmentally friendly.
The dragon’s eye glasses with seating positions, capable of accommodating 3-4 people, are another interactive feature. The backrest of the seats are designed to resemble dragon eyebrows and slanting eyes.
A lotus pond, spanning more than 1,000m2 with gigantic lotus flowers and leaves, is crafted from a combination of zinc and voile fabric. This feature is flanked by the “Nine Dragon Gate” scene, named after the nine tributaries of the Mekong River. Emulating the “Convergence of the Nine Dragons” theme of the flower street, this section promises a collection of nine unique photos capturing the essence of Vietnam’s longest river.
Adjacent to the grand gateway, the “Spring Festival” and “Glass Cloud” scenes are arranged in succession. The transition between sections one and two features an exhibition stand with artfully arranged flowers by consulates from various countries in HCMC. In its fourth consecutive year partnering with Nguyen Hue Flower Street, this collection brings fresh experiences to both locals and international visitors.
Nguyen Hue Flower Street for Tet 2024 will showcase a palette of red, orange, and yellow, featuring 99 varieties of flowers like carnations, statice, snapdragons, cockscombs, and garden cosmos. Over 90,000 flower baskets are expected to adorn the street, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere for the 2024 Tet celebrations.
