Da Nang Targets Longer International Stays With Tailored Tourism Products

Da Nang is shifting attention from visitor numbers to longer stays, with market-specific products and linked central Vietnam itineraries under discussion.

Da Nang is looking to extend international visitors’ stays by building tourism products around different markets and linking experiences across central Vietnam. The strategy was outlined at the Da Nang International Tourism Festival on October 18, 2026.

The city’s immediate challenge is length of stay. International visitors averaged fewer than two days per trip during the first nine months of 2026, despite rising arrivals over several years. Officials and tourism representatives argued that beaches, sightseeing and shopping alone have not given enough visitors a reason to remain longer.

Da Nang’s proposed response is to connect existing offers—beaches, golf, food, cultural attractions, heritage sites and wellness services—and build longer itineraries linking the city with Hoi An, Hue and other central Vietnam destinations.

Different markets, different products

The festival discussion pointed to several visitor groups the city wants tourism businesses to serve more specifically. South Korea remained Da Nang’s largest international market, followed by China and India. South Korean visitors were associated with resort and golf travel, with weddings, conferences and family travel identified as potential areas for India.

Russia and other Commonwealth of Independent States markets were described as promising for longer beach stays combined with wellness services. Arrivals from Russia and CIS countries exceeded 411,000 in the first eight months of 2026, up 94.2 percent year on year, during the first eight months of 2026.

The figures behind the strategy

Da Nang recorded nearly 175,000 golf rounds in the first half of 2026, an increase of 5.6 percent year on year. The city also hosted 101 MICE groups—meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions—with more than 28,400 visitors in the same period, as well as 28 international wedding events.

More than 300 tourism service providers and 550 domestic and international buyers attended the October festival for business networking. Speakers stressed that those contacts should lead to concrete cooperation and visitors.
