Hoi An Workshop Discusses Heritage-Tourism Priorities
A Hoi An heritage-tourism workshop discussed visitor-flow management, conservation funding, site capacity and climate adaptation; no new visitor rules were announced.
Da Nang’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Hoi An World Cultural Heritage Conservation Center held a workshop on October 17 to discuss the future of heritage tourism in Hoi An. The stated aim was to find ways to develop tourism while prioritizing quality.

Participants identified pressures on Hoi An tourism including visitors concentrated at certain times, pressure on heritage spaces, commercialization, service quality and environmental protection. Climate change, natural disasters and extreme weather also affect conservation.
Ideas raised included managing visitor flows more effectively, using digital tools, revisiting ticket sales and reinvesting revenue in conservation, and improving management of site capacity. Other proposed directions included reshaping tourism space, developing greener products and adapting to climate change.
The discussion drew on Vietnam’s 2026 cultural-development and tourism resolutions and the national tourism plan through 2030, with a vision to 2045. The ideas raised remain proposals, rather than changes to visitor ticketing.
