Hoi An Sees a Rainy-Season Visitor Lull, Officials Say
At an October 23 briefing, Da Nang officials linked recent reports of fewer Hoi An visitors to the start of the rainy season.
At a Friday, October 23, 2026 briefing, Da Nang tourism officials addressed service providers’ reports of a prolonged lull in Hoi An visitor numbers. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong, deputy head of the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said seasonality was the main reason.

Central Vietnam’s rainy season typically begins around mid-October, bringing heavy rain, storms and flood concerns that can discourage travelers or prompt cancellations, Phuong said. Nguyen Duc Binh, chief of the Da Nang People’s Committee Office and a former Hoi An Ward secretary, said visitor numbers in October and November have historically fluctuated with the weather.
Binh described seasonal declines as familiar to long-time residents and businesses. He also said some foreign visitors continue to explore Hoi An by boat during the rainy season, although visitor numbers remain low.
