Vietnam Ranks Fourth in Lonely Planet’s Fall 2026 Guidebook Trend List
Vietnam placed fourth in Lonely Planet’s fall 2026 guidebook-sales trend list; the publisher says the ranking is based on book orders, not bookings or arrivals.
Vietnam ranks fourth on Lonely Planet’s list of 15 destinations with the biggest increase in fall guidebook orders. The result comes from Lonely Planet’s own book sales, not a measure of hotel bookings, flight searches, visitor arrivals or confirmed trips.

What the ranking measures
Lonely Planet says it compared book orders from August 20 to September 20, 2026, with the previous period and applied a minimum-order threshold to reduce statistical noise. It did not publish absolute order totals or growth percentages for Vietnam. The list therefore signals increased interest in its travel books, but cannot show how many people will visit or how busy Vietnam’s destinations will be.
Vietnam in the top five
Japan led the 2026 fall list, followed by Italy and Thailand; Vietnam was fourth and South America fifth. Asia accounted for four of the top five entries. Lonely Planet’s Vietnam profile points to several kinds of fall trips, but its ranking does not establish a forecast for weather, seasonal conditions or transport demand.
For trip planning, treat the placement as an editorial guidebook-sales signal rather than a booking or arrival statistic. The publisher did not provide destination-level order counts, so the gap between Vietnam and the other ranked places cannot be measured from the published list.
