Nuremberg Red Light District: What Frauentormauer’s Label Means
Frauentormauer is the street named in Nuremberg’s search. The 2022 ordinance separates public places from a premises exception; it is not a visitor permit.
If a Nuremberg map or search result says “red light district,” the named street to understand is Frauentormauer. A 2022 regional ordinance refers to a defined stretch between Färbertor and Spittlertor, while the local advice organization KASSANDRA describes Frauentormauer as a Nuremberg sex-work area. Neither source makes it a visitor attraction or identifies which premises operate today.

What the 2022 Rule Separates
The regulation published as 33-22 uses two different scopes. Section 1 prohibits prostitution on public streets, roads, squares, parks and places visible from those public areas in Nuremberg and the other named cities. Section 2 separately sets premises restrictions in mapped areas and lists an exception for specified premises along Frauentormauer, from Färbertor to Spittlertor. That premises exception is not blanket permission to conduct business on the pavement.
The version available from the official ordinance collection is dated 20 June 2022, took effect on 1 July 2022, and states an end date of 30 June 2042. I did not establish whether a later amendment has been issued. Treat this as an explanation of that published text, not a current legal determination or advice about a particular address. If a legal decision matters to your trip, confirm it with the responsible authority.

If Your Plan Is an Old-Town Walk
A red-light search label does not tell you what a public sightseeing route includes. The Nuremberg Convention and Tourist Office lists public Old Town walking tours in English alongside other guided tours. Choose a named tour or public sight for city history rather than treating Frauentormauer as a show or assuming that a tour follows the street.

Keep the distinction between public space and private premises clear. Do not photograph people or workplace windows as souvenirs, block entrances, or enter private property. A search result cannot tell you who works at an address, whether a business is operating, or whether an area is appropriate for your plans.
If your question concerns work, health or legal support rather than sightseeing, KASSANDRA says it offers anonymous advice in Nuremberg. Its own site is the right place to check current services and contact options.
