MICHELIN Guide Adds Phu Quoc as Its Fourth Vietnam Destination

Phu Quoc’s first MICHELIN Guide restaurant selection is due in mid-2027; no island restaurants have been named yet.

Phu Quoc will become the fourth Vietnamese destination in the MICHELIN Guide’s restaurant selection, after Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. The Guide announced the expansion on October 1; its Vietnam 2027 selection is expected in mid-2027. No Phu Quoc restaurants were named in the announcement.

The first island selection is still ahead

The addition puts the island on the Guide’s upcoming restaurant-inspection map, but it is not an award list. MICHELIN says its inspectors assess restaurants using five criteria: ingredient quality, cooking technique, flavour harmony, the chef’s personality expressed through the food, and consistency. Inclusion as a destination does not guarantee that any particular restaurant will receive a Star, Bib Gourmand or other distinction.

For visitors travelling before the 2027 selection is released, the announcement does not identify a MICHELIN-listed Phu Quoc restaurant to book. The useful date to watch is mid-2027, when the first island selection is due to be revealed; until then, treat any claim that a local restaurant has already been selected under this announcement with caution.

Why the news matters to food-focused visitors

The Guide’s announcement describes Phu Quoc’s food identity as rooted in fishing-village cooking and island ingredients, alongside a dining scene shaped by international chefs. The new selection could give travellers another reference point for choosing where to eat, but the actual restaurants and distinctions remain unknown until the Guide publishes its list.
