Polish Prime Minister Honours Hoi An Heritage Architect
Donald Tusk visited Hoi An and paid tribute to Polish architect Kazimierz Kwiatkowski, who helped document and conserve its heritage.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk visited Hoi An during his trip to Vietnam and laid a wreath at the monument to Kazimierz Kwiatkowski, the Polish architect who helped preserve the town’s heritage.

After arriving in Da Nang on October 23, Tusk walked through Hoi An’s historic streets and watched a traditional bai choi folk performance. Local leaders and heritage officials attended the wreath-laying ceremony, Tuoi Tre News reported.
An architect’s contribution to Hoi An
Kwiatkowski, known as Kazik, first visited Hoi An in 1982 while working on monuments at My Son Sanctuary. He later spent weekends surveying the town’s old buildings and helped prepare the documentation for its heritage protection, according to the Hoi An World Cultural Heritage Conservation Centre.
Hoi An Ancient Town was recognised as a national historical and cultural site in March 1985. The architect also contributed to conservation work at My Son and promoted Hoi An’s architectural value through research and publications.
