Rotterdam Red Light District: Is There a Visitor Map?
Rotterdam’s permit pages explain sex-business categories; the visitor map covers general sights. Neither source establishes a red-light walking route, and neither proves that no individual business exists.
If by a red-light district you mean a clearly defined visitor area with an official map or walking route, I could not verify one in the sources reviewed. The City of Rotterdam explains sex-business permits, while the tourism board publishes a general city map. Those are different kinds of information. This does not prove that no licensed business operates in Rotterdam; it means the sources reviewed do not document an official adult-tourism route.
Permits Are Not A Visitor Directory
The municipality’s Dutch-language sex-work information page lists examples of licensed businesses, including clubs, private houses, massage salons, escort agencies and sex cinemas. It also describes four permit categories. A separate Dutch-language permit-application page addresses business operators. These are regulatory pages—not a visitor route, a map of public attractions or confirmation that a particular address is open to visitors.
At national level, Government.nl says prostitution is legal when it involves consenting adults, while noting that forced or underage prostitution and unsafe working conditions still occur. That broad statement is not local venue verification or an invitation to seek out or photograph workers.
Does Rotterdam Publish A Red-Light Walking Route?
Rotterdam Tourist Information’s current City Map page links to a 2025 map of major sights and promotes a free city-centre walking route of about 7 kilometres. The map text names public sights such as the Cube Houses; it is a general sightseeing resource, not a dedicated sex-work route. I could not confirm a district boundary or visitor route for sex-work venues in the material reviewed. That is a limit of these sources—not proof that no individual business operates.

How To Evaluate An Online Address List
- Check the page date and who published it. A city permit page, a tourism guide and a commercial directory are not interchangeable sources.
- If you need information about a specific business, verify its current status and visitor conditions with the municipality and the business itself. A permit category does not by itself confirm walk-in access, hours or current operation.
- Respect privacy: do not film or photograph workers or workplace windows. This is visitor-etiquette guidance, not a claim about a specific street or a substitute for current local rules.
Using The Map For An Ordinary City Visit
For a regular city visit, start with the tourism board’s map page and check each attraction’s own official site for current opening times and access. The image below shows Rotterdam’s Cube Houses as city context; it is not evidence of a red-light area. If you are comparing cities, our Amsterdam guide to De Wallen covers a distinct historic neighborhood—Rotterdam should not be assumed to offer the same visitor experience.

Source check (30 September 2026): City of Rotterdam: Sekswerk; City of Rotterdam: applying for a sex-business permit; Government.nl: Prostitution; Rotterdam.info: City Map Rotterdam. These sources do not establish a district boundary, a specific business’s current status or opening hours.
