Two Tourists Arrested After Card Thefts on an HCMC–Singapore Flight

Two men were arrested at Changi after an investigation into alleged card thefts aboard an HCMC–Singapore flight; passengers said cards were taken from overhead-bin bags.

Two men aged 54 and 59 were arrested at Singapore’s Changi Airport Terminal 4 on October 12 during an investigation targeting thefts aboard aircraft. Police said officers found three bank cards that did not belong to them.

What happened aboard the flight

The report connects the investigation to an HCMC–Singapore flight. Investigators alleged that each man stole bank cards from a different passenger’s bag while it was stored in an overhead compartment. Both passengers discovered the cards were missing after leaving the aircraft.

The men were arrested during a police operation in Singapore. The report does not say that they were convicted; it says that, if convicted under Singapore law, they could face up to three years in jail, a fine, or both.

Police advice for passengers

Police advised air passengers to keep cash and valuables with them rather than leave them in bags stored overhead. They also urged passengers to watch for anyone opening compartments or rummaging through another person’s bag and to alert cabin crew if they notice suspicious behaviour.

This is a report of one investigation involving an HCMC–Singapore flight; it does not establish how common onboard theft is or announce a change to the route’s airline procedures.
