Vietnam Ranks 52nd in the 2026 WEF Tourism Development Index

Vietnam rose to 52nd in the WEF’s 2026 tourism development index, which measures enabling conditions rather than visitor numbers or revenue.

Vietnam placed 52nd among 110 economies in the World Economic Forum’s 2026 Travel & Tourism Development Index, seven places higher than in 2024. The result is a benchmark of the conditions supporting tourism development—not a count of visitors, spending or tourism revenue—so it should not be read as a ranking of this year’s travel performance.

The WEF report gives Vietnam a score of 4.15 on a seven-point scale. It assesses factors and policies that help tourism grow sustainably and withstand disruption, across areas including infrastructure, services, tourism resources and sustainability. In Southeast Asia, Vietnam ranked fifth, behind Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

What the index can—and cannot—tell travelers

The index describes the environment in which tourism operates; it does not tell a visitor whether a particular airport, attraction or service is open, convenient or good value. Vietnam’s overall result is therefore useful as national context, not as a substitute for checking the arrangements at a specific destination.

The WEF’s 2026 edition also recalculates historical figures to reflect the latest data and adjustments to indicators. Its comparisons with earlier editions are consequently index comparisons under the revised framework, rather than a simple measure of how many more tourists Vietnam received.
