Phu Quoc isn’t the first place that comes to mind when you think “watch the World Cup.” It’s an island. It’s relaxed. Most people come here to do nothing.
But here’s the thing — Phu Quoc has some genuinely good spots to catch the 2026 FIFA World Cup (June 11 – July 19). And watching a match on a tropical island, with a coconut in hand and your feet in the sand? That beats any sports bar back home.
Vietnam is UTC+7, so about a third of matches fall in the 8 AM to midnight window — perfect for island time.
AKA Sports Bar
Duong Dong — near the night market.
This is the most confirmed World Cup viewing spot on the island. AKA Bar has explicitly stated they show all World Cup games. It’s a proper sports bar with multiple screens, cold beer, and pub food.
Located in Duong Dong town, it’s walkable from most hotels in the area. Gets a good mix of expats and tourists. For big matches, arrive early.
The Rabbit Hole Irish Bar — Phu Quoc
The same group that runs the popular Rabbit Hole in Saigon has a Phu Quoc location. Shows all international sports on big screens. Comfortable setting, good food, proper pints.
It’s a good backup if AKA is full. Also in the Duong Dong area.
Drunken Monkey
Tran Hung Dao Road — the main strip.
Lively atmosphere with a good mix of locals and foreigners. They showed World Cup matches in previous tournaments and are expected to do the same for 2026. Loud, fun, and central.
Long Beach Sports Bars
Long Beach Road has a string of bars that cater to tourists. During the World Cup, many of them set up screens. You won’t have to walk far to find one showing a match.
The vibe here is more relaxed than Duong Dong. Beachfront seating, cold drinks, and a screen showing the game. Perfect for afternoon matches.
Resort Screening Rooms
Many of Phu Quoc’s resorts set up special screening areas during the World Cup. If you’re staying at a resort, ask the front desk:
- Some have dedicated sports lounges with projectors
- Others set up temporary screens by the pool or beach bar
- A few organize group viewing parties for big matches
- Check with your resort before booking — it might save you a trip into town
Match Timing on the Island
Phu Quoc is more relaxed about everything, including match timing:
- 1 AM – 4 AM: Only AKA Bar might be open. Most places close.
- 5 AM – 8 AM: Beachfront cafes start serving breakfast. Some have TVs.
- 8 AM – 12 PM: Perfect island World Cup time. Breakfast + match + beach after.
- Evening matches: Best time on the island. Sunset, cold drink, football.
Tips for Phu Quoc
- AKA Bar is your best bet. Confirm with them on the day for early matches.
- Duong Dong is the nightlife hub. Most sports bars are here.
- Long Beach has more relaxed options. Beachfront, walkable from resorts.
- Rent a motorbike. Getting around Phu Quoc is much easier with wheels. ~150,000 VND/day.
- Check resort facilities. You might not need to leave the property.
- Rain season: June-July is rainy season in Phu Quoc. Short afternoon downpours. Plan indoor spots for afternoon matches.
The Short Version
Phu Quoc won’t have the raucous sports bar scene of Saigon or Hanoi. But what it lacks in quantity, it makes up for in quality — a beach chair, a coconut, a football match. Hard to beat.
Stick to Duong Dong for the dedicated sports bars, or check with your resort for screening setups. Either way, you’ll find a way to watch.
