Money Exchange in Hue: Bank Locations on Both Riverbanks

For a weekday exchange enquiry in Hue, start on the side of the Perfume River where your day is already taking you. South of the river, Vietcombank’s Hue branch is on Hung Vuong and Sacombank’s Hue branch is on Nguyen Hue. For a Citadel-side visit, Vietcombank has an office on Mai Thuc Loan. These named offices have published transaction hours; a jewellery shop or hotel sign does not establish the same service.

South-bank offices: Hung Vuong and Nguyen Hue

The two banks publish different afternoon sessions. In particular, do not assume service continues throughout the lunch break. Use the listed weekday hours as a planning reference and check holidays or an earlier cash-service cut-off with the office.

Before visiting, specify the foreign currency and note denominations you want to sell for VND. Ask what identification is needed and whether the notes’ condition is acceptable. A published bank exchange table can show currencies that are handled by transfer rather than cash, so it cannot replace that conversation.

Citadel-side banking without returning across the river

Vietcombank lists its Mai Thuc Loan office at 39–41, not at a jewellery shop’s address on the same street. This is useful if you are already spending time north of the river and can visit during its weekday sessions.

Sacombank also lists its Phu Xuan office at 49 Tran Hung Dao, with weekday hours of 07:30–11:30 and 13:00–17:00. For directions, match the named office and street number rather than just searching for “bank near the Citadel”. Confirm foreign-cash acceptance before relying on either office for a specific currency.

Hotel exchange agents: a separate, source-backed option

Vietcombank’s current appointed-agent directory includes Saigon Morin at 30 Le Loi, Huong Giang Hotel at 51 Le Loi and the Kinh Thanh hotel company at 5 Le Loi. Those listings establish an exchange-agent relationship; they are more specific than assuming that every hotel can change money.

The directory does not give those desks a universal 24-hour exchange schedule or confirm walk-in access for non-guests. If you are staying at one of them, ask reception about the desk’s operating time, permitted currencies and final VND quote. If you are not a guest, confirm eligibility before going.

A hotel quote may be convenient for a small amount, but this guide has not performed a same-day rate comparison between hotels, banks and shops. Compare the net cash you will receive instead of treating “best rates” as a permanent characteristic of a venue.

Phu Bai arrival: arrange the first payment in advance

Do not make the first airport-to-hotel payment depend on an unconfirmed exchange counter at Phu Bai. Ask your transport provider how payment will work, and bring an initial VND reserve if cash is required. A bank office elsewhere in Phu Bai is not an airport-arrivals counter.

For example, Vietcombank lists its Huong Thuy office at 1151 Nguyen Tat Thanh, Phu Bai, and Sacombank lists an office at 1227 Nguyen Tat Thanh. Those are street addresses for a separate weekday bank visit, not proof that a counter will be available along your path out of the terminal.

If you arrive when banks are closed, ask your hotel about an authorised exchange option or a compatible ATM. An ATM depends on your card, its limits and fees; it cannot exchange physical foreign cash. Keep a workable reserve rather than counting on a seven-day bank timetable.

Gold shops and the cash you need for sightseeing

DOJI or PNJ jewellery branding alone does not confirm foreign-currency exchange at a specific Hue store. Check exchange authorisation and the appointing bank before using any jewellery business for cash exchange. Do not infer a cash service or a higher rate from its gold or gemstone services.
