No more Ho Chi Minh City Districts from July 2025
If you are familiar with the Ho Chi Minh Districts, they will no longer exist from July 2025. Ho Chi Minh City will officially remove its district-level system to simplify the administrative system and improve efficiency. All 22 Ho Chi Minh City districts (quận) will be restructured and replaced by 102 wards (phường), becoming part of a new two-level administrative model: city and ward.
This means areas like District 1, District 3, or Tan Binh District will no longer exist as government units — instead, they’ll be split into newly defined wards.
Don’t worry though — familiar district names will still be used in daily life, at least for some time after the official change.

Impacts on Tourists
For most travelers, the change won’t cause major issues — but there are a few things to keep in mind.
Although district-level governments will be removed from July 2025, popular names like “District 1” or “District 3” will still be used widely by locals, in signs, and even in Ho Chi Minh City tour listings. However, official documents such as visas, hotel bookings, or tour confirmations may start showing new ward names instead.
That means when you’re filling out visa forms, giving your address for airport pickup, or booking a tour — don’t be confused if “District 1” is now listed as “Ben Thanh Ward” or “Saigon Ward.” It’s still the same place, just under the new system.
Tour agencies, hotels, and immigration offices are expected to accept either version for now, but it’s a good idea to double-check if the names match what’s on your official paperwork.
