Vietnam Ranks Ninth on WEF’s 2026 Safety-and-Security Measure
Vietnam scored 6.52 on the WEF’s 2026 tourism safety-and-security pillar. It is a country-level index, not a guarantee for individual routes or sites.
Vietnam scored 6.52 and ranked ninth on the Safety and Security pillar of the World Economic Forum’s 2026 Travel & Tourism Development Index. The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism said the result was 18 places higher than the country’s 2024 position.

What the score measures
The index combines several indicators, including confidence in police, how safe people feel walking alone at night, homicide rates, terrorism impact and organised violence. Its score is a broad, country-level comparison of conditions linked to tourism development; it is not a rating of every destination or an assurance about any individual trip.
How to read the ranking
A ninth-place result can provide context when comparing national tourism indicators, but it cannot tell a traveller whether a particular road, beach, hotel or activity is safe today. Local conditions and activity-specific risks still vary. The index should not replace current, place-specific information when planning a route.
The WEF measure is separate from visitor-arrival totals. Vietnam’s international-arrivals figures for the first nine months of 2026 track the volume of inbound travel, not the index’s safety-and-security indicators.
