What to Eat in Nha Trang — 10 Local Dishes Locals Actually Order

Heading to Nha Trang? Here are 10 local dishes worth seeking out — from jellyfish noodle soup to smoky grilled beef, with real prices and where to find them.

Most people come to Nha Trang for the beach. Fair enough — the bay is gorgeous. But the food scene is what keeps pulling me back, and honestly it’s the part I’d hate to miss.

Nha Trang sits on the south-central coast, so the menu leans hard into seafood. But it’s not just grilled prawns (though those are great). The city has its own noodle soups, its own grilled pork rolls, even its own way of doing a crispy pancake. July is one of the best months to visit — calm seas, clear skies, barely a drop of rain to ruin your street-food crawl.

Here are 10 dishes I send every first-timer to try, with the spots locals actually queue for and what you’ll pay.

Bún cá & Bún sứa (Fish & Jellyfish Noodle Soup)

A bowl of this is how a lot of Nha Trang mornings start. Bún cá is a clear fish broth with rice noodles and fresh fish cakes; bún sứa swaps in crisp jellyfish for a texture you won’t find up north. Locals hit it with green chilli salt and a squeeze of lime.

The broth is the kind of clear you only get from fish bones simmered since before dawn. I’ve sent groups to Bun Ca Nguyen Loan for years and never had a complaint.

Where: Bun Ca Nguyen Loan, 123 Ngo Gia Tu
Price: 45,000 – 60,000 VND
When: 5am – 10pm

Nem nướng Ninh Hòa (Grilled Pork Rolls)

These grilled pork rolls come from Ninh Hoa, a district just north of the city, and they’ve basically become Nha Trang’s signature snack. Skewers of smoky pork, wrapped in rice paper with herbs, cucumber, and a fried rice cracker, then dunked in a peanut-heavy sauce.

Get the DIY wrap right and it’s a whole mouthful — meat, crunch, herb, all at once. Don’t rush it.

Where: Nem Nuong Dang Van Quyen, 16A Lan Ong (also 2-4 Phan Boi Chau)
Price: 55,000 – 120,000 VND
When: 7am – 9pm

Bánh căn (Mini Rice Pancakes)

Think mini rice pancakes cooked in clay molds over charcoal — crispy at the edge, soft in the middle, topped with quail egg, shrimp, or pork. You eat them with green mango, herbs, and a dipping sauce that’s more meatball than fish sauce.

They’re a breakfast thing traditionally, but the good stalls fire up again in the evening. Last time I went (a random Tuesday in March), the one on Hoang Hoa Tham had a 10-deep queue by 7pm. Worth the wait.

Where: Banh Can Ngoc, 113 Hoang Hoa Tham
Price: 40,000 – 130,000 VND
When: 7am – 10:30pm

Bánh xèo mực (Crispy Squid Crepes)

Banh xeo muc — Nha Trang’s squid-stuffed crispy pancake.

Vietnam’s crispy turmeric pancakes show up everywhere, but Nha Trang stuffs theirs with fresh squid. You wrap a piece in mustard leaf and green mango, dip it in chilli fish sauce, and get that crackle-then-fresh contrast.

The squid version is lighter than the pork-and-bean-sprout standard you’ll find in Hoi An or Saigon. Trust me on this one — order it with the squid, not the pork.

Where: Banh Xeo Hai Phuong – Yen, 46/27 Hung Vuong
Price: 100,000 – 120,000 VND
When: 11am – 11pm

Bò nướng Lạc Cảnh (Spicy Grilled Beef)

This is Nha Trang’s meat-lover institution. Beef marinated in a spice-and-sugar paste, grilled over coals until it’s charred at the edges, then wrapped in basil and lettuce with a dab of chilli salt.

Groups pile in here at night and leave smelling like a bonfire — in the best way. Order the beef, not the chicken, and wrap every piece in herbs.

Where: Lac Canh Grilled Beef, 77 Nguyen Binh Khiem
Price: 100,000 – 200,000 VND
When: 9:30am – 9pm

Gỏi cá mai (Halfbeak Fish Salad)

Cá mai is a small, sweet fish, and here it gets cured in lime juice with toasted rice powder, chilli, and shredded veg — basically a coastal ceviche. Wrap it in rice paper with herbs, dip in mắm nêm.

The texture is light and clean. It’s a late-afternoon harbourside thing more than a dinner one, so time it around your beach afternoon.

Where: Goi Ca Mai Co Hang, 54 Thap Ba
Price: 50,000 – 100,000 VND
When: 10:30am – 8:30pm

Bánh ướt Diên Khánh (Steamed Rice Sheets)

Steamed rice sheets, silky and thin, topped with scallion oil and minced pork, with a chilli dip on the side. The Diên Khánh version (from a district west of the city) is the one people drive out for.

Heads up: this is a morning-only dish. The best spots close by 1:30pm. Miss it and you’re waiting till tomorrow.

Where: Banh Uot Dien Khanh, 104 Tran Huu Duyet
Price: 10,000 – 50,000 VND
When: 6am – 1:30pm

Cháo nhum (Sea Urchin Porridge)

Sea urchin porridge. Sounds adventurous; tastes like the ocean decided to be cozy. Creamy rice porridge, fresh urchin roe, spring onion, cracked pepper, a sliver of ginger.

It’s a cool-evening comfort dish. If you’ve never had urchin, this is a gentle way in — no shock, just brine and warmth.

Where: Thanh Suong Seafood, 15 Tran Phu
Price: 80,000 – 120,000 VND
When: 10am – 11pm

Bánh mì chả cá (Fried Fish Cake Baguette)

Vietnamese baguette stuffed with fried fish cake patties — pepper, garlic, dill — plus pickled veg and coriander. It’s the beach-walk breakfast: cheap, fast, salty, good.

Grab one from a cart near the water before 11am. After that the good ones are gone, and you don’t want the sad 3pm version.

Where: Banh Mi Thanh Thanh, 14 Yersin
Price: 15,000 – 35,000 VND
When: 5:30am – 11am

Hải sản (Grilled Seafood by the Beach)

Save room for the obvious one. Nha Trang’s beachfront grills do prawns, squid, clams, and crab over charcoal, and the price-per-kilo system means you pick your catch from a live tank.

Two rules: confirm the price per kilo before they cook (some spots hike it for tourists), and ask for the green chilli salt — muối ớt xanh, a mix of bird’s-eye chilli, salt, lime, and a bit of condensed milk. It makes grilled squid taste like ten times itself.

Where: Beachfront grills along Tran Phu
Price: by weight — budget 200,000 – 400,000 VND/person for a proper seafood dinner

Before You Go

  • Bring cash. Nearly every stall is cash-only. Small notes — 10k, 20k, 50k.
  • Ask the price first. Seafood is sold by weight. Confirm per-kilo before they cook it.
  • Hunt the queues. A stall with a 10-deep local line is doing something right. Empty = skip.
  • Time your dishes. Banh uot and banh mi are morning-only. Banh can and seafood are evening. Plan around them.
  • Try the green chilli salt. Muoi ot xanh with grilled seafood — non-negotiable.

The Short Version

Nha Trang eats better than most beach towns in Vietnam. The seafood’s a given — but the bún cá at dawn, the nem nướng you wrap yourself, the bánh căn queue at night, those are the memories.
