Rumors about Da Nang Red Light District
Da Nang, with its stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife, is often compared to Pattaya in Thailand, a city well-known for its entertainment and red-light districts. This reputation has led many travelers to look for Da Nang offers similar experiences, sparking curiosity and frequent inquiries about the existence of a red-light district.
But, is there really any Red Light Area in Da Nang?

At a recent forum on boosting Da Nang’s tourism through nightlife, a bold idea sparked heated debate. A tourism expert suggested creating a regulated “red light district” to attract more international visitors and improve safety. The proposal pointed out that activities like gambling and prostitution, though illegal, already happen secretly and pose risks. A managed approach, they argued, could improve safety, bring in tax revenue, and support the economy.
The expert proposed setting up this district in a self-contained resort area, using licensed workers from abroad to respect local culture and family values. They also called for a large-scale nightlife zone, similar to Ho Chi Minh City’s Bui Vien Street, to make Da Nang a livelier destination for tourists and locals alike. While controversial, the ideas have stirred conversation about the city’s potential for nighttime tourism.

The rumors turned out to be... fake
Well, there is no “proposal” to open a red-light district in Da Nang at all.
On 15/08/2022, the Da Nang Department of Information and Communications announced a fine of 7.5 million VND for a journalist who posted false information on their personal Facebook page. The post falsely claimed that Da Nang was planning to open a red-light district to boost tourism. This misinformation sparked public debate and negatively impacted the city’s image as a tourist destination.

The Da Nang Department of Tourism has since clarified that there is no proposal or policy to develop a red-light district in the city. It emphasized that none of its tourism development plans, including its strategy through 2030 with a vision to 2045, include such an initiative. The department reaffirmed its commitment to promoting family-friendly and culturally appropriate tourism.
But, is there actually Red Light District in Da Nang?
No, Da Nang does not have an official red light district. While there are nightlife areas with bars, clubs, and massage in Da Nang parlors, these are not organized or promoted as red light districts. Activities associated with such areas may exist unofficially but are not legally sanctioned or openly advertised.
Therefore, it is best to find healthier activities in Da Nang, such as paragliding or normal tours. That will ensure legality and safety when you travel in one of the most beautiful cities in Vietnam.
